Somerset County Jail is responsible for taking custody, care, and control of a person who is thought to have committed a crime. It takes care of inmates of all offenses from misdemeanors to capital offenses. The facility can accommodate a maximum of 234 inmates.

Before sending mail to your inmate, you should first contact the Somerset County Jail. Two or more inmates may share the same name, hence the need to be specific. Additionally, some rules and regulations need to be adhered to.

Some items are approved, and some like drugs are illegal and cannot be allowed into the facility.

Sending Money

The easiest way to send money to an inmate at the Somerset County Jail is by using MoneyGram. However, you need to check for the inmates' correctional ID as it is required. Moreover, you should include the inmates' names, your name, and the amount you are sending.

Note you cannot make deposits over the phone, and you will have to create an account first.

Phone calls

The inmates are allowed to make phone calls to friends and family. However, approval from prison warders is required before making a call. During booking into the Somerset County Jail, an inmate is given access to a phone.

If an inmate wants to make a private call, there is a phone in every room. The billing of the calls is charged per minute, and there is no connection fee. Three-way calls are not allowed.

Visitation

As a visitor, you need to sign in 30 minutes before seeing an inmate and sign 30 minutes before ending the visit. Additionally, each visitor should produce the following:

  • Identification card; you can also give a birth certificate, social security card or any other document that the sheriff will approve

  • Every visitation lasts for 30 minutes

  • An inmate is allowed a maximum of 2 visits in a week

  • You may be liable for criminal prosecution if you bring unauthorized items.

  • No contact visits allowed at the Somerset County Jail.

  • It would be best if you bought all necessities through the commissary.

The visitations are allowed Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
